With an increase in tenants needing assistance following the Covid pandemic and rise in household living costs it is vital that the Council has the capability to support them and ensure they are able to maximise their income and successfully sustain their tenancies. The post holder will work within the Rents Team acting as a referral point for all vulnerable tenants with a view to preventing arrears accruing. You will be experienced in working in a housing environment or a similar role, enthusiastic, organised and looking for a challenging new role.


Key areas of responsibility will include:


  • To carry out home visits to tenants requiring additional support to sustain their tenancies, assisting them in maximising their income and capacity to pay their rent by providing advice on moving to alternative premises accessing employment and options to deal with their debt.
  • To assist tenants with the completion of benefit claims and signpost tenants to support providers to ensure income is maximised
  • To assist with sign-ups for new tenants ensuring that all documentation is provided including for Universal Credit and housing benefit claims.
  • To provide support to the Rents Team monitoring rent arrears taking action where necessary including attendance at court


You must be able to demonstrate the following:


  • Working knowledge of housing legislation and welfare reform
  • Excellent numeracy skills;
  • Confidence, enthusiasm and a flexible approach;
  • Excellent administration skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Good keyboard skills and the proven ability to learn and utilise new software;
  • Good customer care skills;
  • The ability to discuss sensitive issues with our customers calmly;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Availability to participate in out of hours Emergency Standby Call Out Rota


A full driving licence and access to your own car is required for this post.
